“Confluence” rounds out a library of twelve books of poems by Ruth F. Guillard. The book’s title reflects Guillard’s new surroundings in a historic town near Merrymeeting Bay, where six rivers join in one body of water before flowing out to the Gulf of Maine.
Metaphorically, it refers to the author’s many streams of thought coming together—poems of grief, of great joy, of village life, and of closeness with Nature, her creatures and her laws, always a theme in Guillard’s poetry.
Ruth Fredericks Guillard is originally from Philadelphia. In 1952, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (music major) from the University of Pennsylvania, and had a career performing baroque and renaissance music before becoming a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation ™ technique in 1974. Her husband of 54 years, Dr. Robert Guillard, passed away in 2016. Guillard has three sons, five grown grandchildren, and her dog “Moxie.”
